Attention hop lovers: Washington Hop Mob returns for 2022

Love hoppy beers? Then you’ll be excited to hear that Washington Hop Mob returns in 2022. The celebration of Washington-brewed, super-hopped beers kicks off on February 10th. For the 8th year, the Hop Mob committee invites brewers across the state to unleash their hoppiest creations.

Originally dedicated strictly to triple IPA, Washington Hop Mob relaxed its requirements and now defines a Hop Mob Beer as one that features a complete expression of hop character. Also, we ask that breweries produce a beer exclusively for Hop Mob and not simply rebrand another beer. The goal is for the brewer to show off the bounty of hops to their fullest.

In the past, we’ve used the term roadshow in conjunction with Hop Mob, but this year, like last, is a little bit different. We know for certain that Brouwer’s Cafe in Seattle will host a Hop Mob Kickoff event on February 10th, which will feature as many as 16 of the Hop Mob beers on tap. Because of the circumstances, it is unclear what other kinds of events bars and taprooms might construe for Hop Mob this year, though we certainly invite them to do so.

We will share information about the Hop Mob beers and Hop Mob events on the official Hop Mob website – wahopmob.com. We will also continue to promote Hop Mob (the beers and the events) here on the Washington Beer Blog. Details are coming together, so stay tuned.

Below, see the official announcement/invitation, which we sent out to brewers across the state. Any bars or taprooms interested in hosting an official Hop Mob event should reach out to Kendall Jones. Breweries are welcome to do the same.

Washington Hop Mob returns for 2022, kicking off on February 10th.

Sorry for the late announcement but we want to let Washington breweries know that we (the Hop Mob committee) are moving forward with Hop Mob, our annual celebration of the most hop-forward of all hop-forward beers.

What is a Hop Mob beer? Any beer in the Hop Mob should feature a complete expression of hop character. It’s no longer required to be a Triple IPA unless that’s what you want to brew. We just want you to show off the bounty of hops to their fullest, in whatever way you feel fit. We ask that these beers be brewed exclusively for Hop Mob.

We will promote Hop Mob and the beers to the best of our abilities, encouraging bars and retailers to support the mission, but we cannot make any promises about beer sales. Hosting events is still a bit of a dicey proposition, but if venues step up to do so we will make sure all participating breweries know which bars might be looking for Hop Mob beers.

We will list all participating breweries on the Hop Mob website (wahopmob.com), where we will also provide a calendar of scheduled events. In addition, we will be promoting Hop Mob beers and events via the Washington Beer Blog and its social media channels.

The Hop Mob Kickoff event at Brouwer’s Café is scheduled for Thursday, February 10th. This year, that event will likely feature no more than 16 beers.

Breweries that intend to produce a beer for Hop Mob can send an email to Kendall Jones (kjones@washingtonbeerblog.com) and include the term Hop Mob in the subject line. Feel free to include info about the beer you intend to brew — name, style, other details. He will maintain the Hop Mob website and manage communications with the participating breweries and bars.
