Are you ready for Pumpkin Beer season?

I don’t mean to sound like Debbie Downer, but the whole pumpkin beer thing is kind of silly. In part, I suppose that’s the point. In the words of Dick Cantwell, the former brewmaster and co-owner of Elysian Brewing, and the undisputed Pumpkin Beer King, the orange gourd is an inherently silly thing. Nowhere is the incontrovertible silliness of the pumpkin better displayed than the annual Great Pumpkin Beer Festival (GPBF) hosted by Elysian Brewing.

It’s still summer, technically. The leaves haven’t really begun to change color yet. Can’t we please get through Fresh Hop Ale season before we shift gears and get warped over pumpkin beers?

Apparently not. Tickets have been on sale for Elysian Brewing Great Pumpkin Beer Festival since August 1st and they’ve now announced the Pumpkin Royalty Contest. Thanks Elysian; I was trying to enjoy the last fleeting days of summer but here I am writing about friggin’ pumpkins.

I sometimes wonder if Dick isn’t sitting around somewhere sipping a Fresh Hop IPA and laughing at all of us for getting so bent out of shape over pumpkin beer. I think maybe he started the GPBF for for no reason except that he likes to wear orange.

The 12th Annual GPBF takes place on Saturday, October 8, at a brand new location: the North Lot of CenturyLink Field outside of Elysian Fields. Although I assume Dick Cantwell won’t be there, it will surely be just as silly as ever. You can get more details and buy tickets here.

Today Elysian announced the Pumpkin Royalty contest. Winners get a whole bunch of stuff that sounds really cool if you’re a pumpkin beer nerd. Here’s the official announcement.

Calling all Pumpkinheads!

Do you love all things pumpkin, especially beer? Do you rush to get your hands on the first batches of Elysian’s delicious pumpkin brews each year? Do you remember when Elysian had their Great Pumpkin Beer Festival on Capitol Hill? Or, do you just love the idea of parading around in costume?

Beginning August 15, and running through September 15, Elysian invites you to submit a video or photo, letting us and the world know why you deserve to be the King or Queen of GPBF!

To enter, simply follow @ElysianBrewing on Instagram and post your entry using the hashtag #GPBFRoyalty. A winner will be announced on Friday, September 23, 2016.

PUMPKIN ROYALTY WIN
– TICKETS TO GPBF
– HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS
– TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM FESTIVAL

– TICKETS AND TRANSPORTATION FOR YOUR ROYAL COURT (UP TO 6 FRIENDS)

Being our Pumpkin Royalty isn’t just all fun and games. You have to be picked up in a fancy car to get transported to and from the festival, stay in a spiffy hotel room, drink all the pumpkin beers in the world, become pumpkin celebrities, and you have to be in a bunch of photos with everyone that comes to the festival. See? It’s work. Take it from us, this ain’t for the gourdless.

This is our 4th year hosting this contest and the first time we’re accepting either pictures or videos. Please take inspiration from past years and get creative. You can either take a photo or post a video. We do ask that you limit your videos to 1 minute or less. You may apply solo or as a couple (King/King, King/Queen, Queen/Queen – whatever your pomp and circumstance)… just no pets, please. Also, applicants must be 21+ as GPBF is a 21+ beer event.
