SEATTLE – Whether you prefer lederhosen or are drawn in by craft beer, all are welcome to celebrate Oktoberfest at Altstadt in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square. The festivities start with an Oktoberfest Brewer’s Kick-Off party featuring four local, Oktoberfest beers on Sept. 16 and continue with a delicious run of festive food, German-style brews, and seasonal cocktails through Oct. 31.

Washington has established itself as a top brewing state, with many local brew masters crafting German-style beers. Oktoberfest is the perfect time to draw together these artisans for a great celebration. Altstadt has assembled brewers from around the state to bring their Oktoberfest brews for guests to discover, alongside the restaurant’s authentic and housemade German fare inspired by chef-manager Megan Coombes’ experiences in Germany. The Sept. 16 Oktoberfest Brewer’s Kick-Off runs from 4-10 p.m. and will include a traditional keg-tapping, live music with Lauren Murphie and the Sodo 4 and Oktoberfest food and beverages.

The traditional keg-tapping with Bitburger will spotlight the Benediktiner Oktoberfest beer. For $20, guests will receive a tasting mug and six tickets for German-style Oktoberfest beers from four local area breweries and one German: Seapine, Silver City (Oktoberbest and Uberfest beers), Alpine, Chuckanut and Bitburger (Benediktiner beer). Each brewery has developed a special Oktoberfest beer for the season that they’ll present at the event. Through Oct., Altstadt will offer an Oktoberfest flight with one beer from each brewery, feature the guest favorite on a special Oktoberfest tap, and design a special Oktoberfest beer cocktail that will include the guest favorite beer.

Guests are invited to enjoy optional hearty German fare before filling that stein! Two-tiered pricing options, $6 or $10, on the Oktoberfest menu, with many continuing on the seasonal menu through Oct.:
