Airstream travel trailers and draft beer. Two classics come together as one

There’s nothing quite so old school as an Airstream travel trailer. There’s nothing quite so new school as an RFID-controlled, self-serve beer tap system. HopTown Pizza in Wapato, Washington introduces the world’s first Airstream PourMyBeer self-service beer tapping system.

That’s right, an Airstream trailer with 14 self-serve taps sticking out the side, pouring a selection of craft beers, ciders, and seltzers. In case you don’t know how these things work, you present your ID, open a tab, and they give you an RFID card that you use to activate the taps. You pour your own beer and pay by the ounce. Pour yourself a couple of four-ounce tasters or pour yourself a 16-ounce pint.

In a different time, the idea of a self-serve tapping system caused me to scratch my head a little bit. Now, given our COVID-impacted world, I am starting to understand the value. If nothing else, it’s one less point of contact with another person. I don’t typically mind interacting with my fellow humans, but the pandemic is what it is. Also, the idea that you can choose the size of your pour is pretty cool, especially when faced with many choices.

Anyway, viruses and everything else aside, I share this here because it brings together two things I love. Airstream travel trailers and beer taps. That’s all. BTW, Wapato is near Yakima.

At HopTown Pizza, customers open their tab by presenting an ID and credit card to the host, who verifies that you are at least 21 years old. Once the age is verified, guests receive a PourMyBeer RFID
card linked to their credit card which gives them access to the self-pour taps in the airstream.

Each of HopTown’s 14 beverages can be sampled and poured in whatever quantity the customer desires, so they can try sips of a few and find their favorite. This ensures that patrons drink only what they want and never get stuck with an entire glass of a drink they don’t love. Best of all, the quick and efficient nature of self-serve dispensing means that the long lines and wait times synonymous with traditional bar dispensing are eliminated with self-pour.

Self-pour also provides customers with a way to safely and efficiently pour their beverages in the pandemic world. With fewer touchpoints and less crowding than at a traditional bar, customers can enjoy their experience while remaining safe with self-pour technology.

Josh Goodman, the CEO of PourMyBeer shares, “The more projects we do, the more people know that our self-pour technology exists. When you combine what our technology can do with creative minds like some of our most recent projects with hotels, casinos and renovated airstream trailers for outdoor events, I’m excited to see the next 100 projects we do as a result.”

Currently, HopTown Pizza has adjusted their restaurant operations to comply with Covid-19 guidelines. They have outdoor seating in their HopYard as well as curbside ordering. Customers can also enjoy local brews to go by ordering growlers or six-packs with their curbside pickup orders. HopTown even has food kits to take home – kids pizza kit, dough balls, and elephant ear kit – so you can bring the fun to your home!

HopTown Pizza is located at 2560 Donald Wapato Rd, Wapato, WA 98951. If you’d like to visit HopTown, check out their hours of operation below.
