Chuckanut Brewery releases Sultana Single Hop Lager
Earning a reputation like the one enjoyed by Chuckanut Brewery isn’t easy. Neither is winning all those lovely medals at prestigious beer competitions. One way the brewery hones its beer game is by experimenting and gaining a deeper understanding of the ingredients it uses, like all the newfangled hop varieties that have hit the market in recent years. For example, Sultana.
That’s why Chuckanut Brewery began releasing a series of single hop beers– to explore the complete expression of each hop variety more fully. The latest in the series is brewed with Sultana hops, which is a breed developed by Hopstiener.
About Sultana Hops
After a full ten years of development, this hop variety was released with the name Sultana in the summer of 2019. Formerly it was known by its experimental names: X06277 and Denali.
Sultana is a big beast of a hop and some have nicknamed it Nuggetzilla. The plant, the cone, the oils, the aroma, it’s all big. Aroma and flavor descriptors include pineapple, pine, and bright citrus. Sultana is a crossbreed between Nugget, Zeus, and a USDA hop variety that was introduced in 2006.
